Adam Quaife is a music producer, engineer and composer based in Melbourne Australia.
He creates music under his own name and the alias House of Q where he’s released original tracks.
Remarkably, at age 18 he sold his first song (written on a Fairlight CMI) to the Australian film Frenchman’s Farm. As a record producer/engineer he has credits on many Australian releases.
In addition to production work, Quaife has done session performances (for instance, playing piano on Daryl Braithwaite’s song “See You Around Sometime"
He.has a wide range of clients from Daryl Braithwaite and Divinyls to the Screaming Jets and Lime Spiders reflecting his broad studio involvement. He even contributed as a producer to QUT’s Indie 100 compilation in 2013 and 2015. Further creative work includes co-creating the multimedia piece “Frolicking in the Garden of Scull” with artist Anthony Breslin, for which Quaife composed the soundscape.
Quaife has been an audio educator since 1997 and is a long‑time Avid Pro Tools Certified Instructor (certified in 2000) He holds a Master in Creative Industries (Music and Sound) (QUT, 2013) and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2021) underscoring his academic credentials. He served as a Lecturer in Audio Production at Box Hill Institute (Melbourne) and is now a Senior Lecturer in Audio and Music at SAE University College, Melbourne. In these roles he teaches courses in audio engineering, recording and production, using a project-based learning approach. For example, at SAE he guides students through real-world recording projects and has overseen student-driven compilations like Indie 100 His pedagogical style emphasizes hands-on studio practice and reflective learning. Through his work he has also contributed to curriculum development – his consultancy services include “education design and consultancy for audio production” and studio planning indicating involvement in shaping audio training programs.
Quaife has played a key role in designing and equipping teaching studios. A notable example is his leadership in selecting an API 1608 analog mixing console for Box Hill Institute’s Studio R. He evaluated consoles and chose the API for its sound quality, control and reliability, directly influencing the learning environment (Box Hill’s students train on both analog and digital consoles). In general he offers studio design and audio training consultancy as part of his professional services meaning he advises on layout, equipment choices and program structure for educational facilities.
Quaife shares his expertise through creative collaborations and institutional channels. For instance, he co-created “Frolicking in the Garden of Scull” (2022), an animated gallery installation by artist Anthony Breslin. Quaife composed its minimalist sound design and music (credited as music/audio producer) This work was exhibited at Burrinja Cultural Centre (Melbourne) in October–November 2022
